Wearing even a wedding ring can make you a big target in certain places in Jamaica nowadays.
According to a report by the Observer, a woman had to be rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon (October 30) after a thief hacked off her finger because she had problems removing her wedding ring which he demanded.
The woman, writhing in pain and traumatised, was admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital, OBSERVER ONLINE was told.
A large crowd gathered at the hospital as news of the incident spread.
According to reports the woman was walking with her husband in downtown Kingston when the criminal pounced, demanding that she hand over her ring.
The thief is reportedly involved in the cash-for-gold trade, which has spawned myriad break-ins and hold ups, especially in the Corporate Area and Spanish Town, St Catherine.
