Jamaica’s global superstar Usain Bolt is an above average showman, and on Tuesday (September 2) he electrified his Indian fans in his trademark style ‘ to di world’….in a brief exhibition cricket contest against a Yuvraj Singh led team in India today.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic 6000 plus- crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium the Olympic Champion Bolt who is also a skilful footballer, fell short of a half century, but was able to help his team beat Yuvraj-led side in the seven-a-side cricket match. It was a thrilling last-ball victory over team Yuvraj in the match which had four overs for each team.
It was the finest hour for the overzealous camera men at the game who fell over the barriers, as Bolt blasted his way to a quick-fire 45 off just 19 deliveries, a surreal feat captured only in the movies. His 45 runs studded with five sixes as his team chased down the 59-run target in the last ball of the match.
Yuvraj though had his ‘sweet revenge’ as he ‘defeated’ Bolt in the 100-meters sprint on the track as he was allowed to win the race. The time was not independently verified, but Bolts’ world record of 9.58 seconds we can confirm..is still intact.
Team Bolt comprised the sprinters best friend Nugent Walker Junior and Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, among others while India’s 2011 cricket World Cup winning hero Yuvraj had pacer Zaheer Khan among others in his team for the face-off titled ‘Bolt and Yuvi – battle of the legends’.
The contest was organised by sportswear giant Puma. Both Bolt and Yuvraj are Puma ambassadors.
