Jamaican Athletes warned on usage of Supplements
Jamaica’s Minister with Responsibility for Sport, Natalie Neita-Headley has warned athletes about their supplement usage.
(JIS) She urged athletes to exercise caution when consuming dietary supplements.
The Minister noted that some of these supplements can compromise their chances of competing on the international stage.
“We implore all our athletes, the coaches, the administrators and the managers of them, that the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) is really telling you that supplements are not regulated. The suppliers and the manufacturers of the supplements, they make them to make money, they are not necessarily effective either,” Neita Headley said.
Mrs. Neita-Headley who was speaking at the January 3 official launch of the Wellness 360 web application in Kingston, reminded athletes that they bear full responsibility for what they put into their bodies.
