Nine month jail sentence for stealing Duck

A Guyanese man by the name of Kishna Mohabir confessed to stealing his neighbour’s duck in an area of the country known as Corentyne. This is how he explained what led him to steal the duck in court.

He told the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court that the duck was to be blamed for him committing the offence, “You worship me na thief none duck. He had no right to fly in me yard. The duck fly in me yard and me ketch am a kill am”, he said.

However his neighbour had a different story and stated that he heard his dogs barking and when he went to investigate he saw the accused jumping a fence with his duck underneath his arm.

A report was made to the police and he was later arrested and slapped with a nine month jail sentence.
