Jamaica’s Reggae Boys enter the lion’s den against Guatemala: World Cup qualification at stake
Jamaica’s Reggae Boys will on Friday take on Guatemala, in Guatemala City on match day 5 in the semifinal round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tournament.
The Jamaicans are third in the group but only on goal difference as they have the same amount of points –7– as the United States and the Guatemalans.
There are some injury worries in the Jamaican camp, however central defender Adrian Mariappa was passed fit and participated in training after he was hospitalized on Tuesday after suffering a rib injury following a clash with goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett in their training session at the Club Social Y deportes Municipal.
Midfielder Rudolf Austin who has an ankle knock continues to be an injury concern heading into the match.
The other game in the group sees the United States playing away to Antigua and Barbuda. The Americans will however be missing the services of L.A Galaxy forward Landon Donovan and FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea due to injuries.
Donovan who is suffering a left injury, is the all-time U.S leader with 49 goals in 130 matches and his absence magnifies coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s decision not to call upon Jozy Altidore, who has eight goals in eight league matches for Dutch side AK Alkmaar.
Shea meanwhile is nagged by an abdominal strain and will continue treatment in Dallas.
Over in Group B, leaders Mexico visit Guyana, and El Salvador host Costa Rica.
The action Group C sees Panama hosting Honduras and Cuba playing away to Canada.
