On Saturday (May 27), Jamaica’s double-Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson had to settle for third place in the women’s 200m at the Eugene Diamond League.

The event saw Thompson compete against a star-studded field, which included Allyson Felix, Dafne Schippers, Tori Bowie and Shaunae Miller.

The American athlete Tori Bowie crossed the line first with a time of 21.77, ahead of the Olympic 400m gold medallist Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who finished second with a time of 21.91.

Thompson finished third in 21.98.  Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands was fourth in 22.30.

This represents Thompson’s first loss of the season. She dominated the diamond league series prior to this race winning the women’s 200m in Doha then 100m in Shanghai.

Thompson also comfortably won the women’s 200m event at the Jamaica International Invitational (JII) on Saturday (May 20) in Kingston.
