Dispelling Some Myths About Online Education

Committing yourself to an academic programme that may last for several years requires careful consideration and serious thinking, especially when it comes to online university courses. With so many providers of online academic courses on the market today, many of which offer services of ambiguous quality, prospective students may rightfully doubt the credibility of online programmes and providers.

UNICAF has been in operation since 2012. In the last four years it has proven its credibility and reliability by helping over 8,000 students, with scholarships totalling over $35,000,000, on their path to quality higher education. This proven fact about UNICAF dispels various myths that tend to pop up when online university programmes are considered. Myths and non-truths like the following:

How can one be sure that UNICAF is real?

UNICAF is a member of EDEX, the largest English language independent university platform in the European Union, as well as an official partner of the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, Marymount California University in the USA, the University of South Wales in the UK and Unicaf University in Malawi.

Does UNICAF ask for money to be transferred to offshore accounts?

Not at all. UNICAF’s headquarters are in Cyprus, a member state of the European Union, and all payments by students are sent to Cyprus. With UNICAF you only pay a small application fee and, depending on the level of scholarship you are eligible for, a part of the tuition fees normally charged for the course of your choice. Nothing else. If you are asked to send money to other accounts and are uncertain if the person you are speaking to is really from UNICAF, contact us directly via our website and we will look into it.

Online degrees have less value than traditional degrees

Degrees earned through UNICAF are awarded by our well established partner universities and are not specified as online degrees. You can do all your studying online, from the comfort of your home, and then fly out to receive your degree in the graduation ceremony held at your university’s campus. UNICAF students can attend the same graduation ceremonies as on-campus students of our partner universities and receive exactly the same qualifications. UNICAF offers students of lesser financial means the chance to receive quality higher education at a fraction of the cost, allowing them to keep their job and remain in the family home throughout their years of study. At the successful conclusion of their studies through UNICAF, they receive an internationally recognised degree from an established university.

Online education is ineffective and impersonal

UNICAF students receive far more than just online texts and documents over the course of their studies. Even though lecturers are not physically present in the same room as their students, they have regular one-to-one meetings and tutorials online, often exceeding in duration and frequency the personal attention on campus students usually receive. Online tutors provide answers to all questions a student may have and send additional material, such as videos, presentations and podcasts, which on campus students rarely receive. An internal messaging system and chat forum enables UNICAF online students to have constant contact with fellow students to exchange ideas and advice. There is always someone ready to help out our online students.

Tuition fees with UNICAF are too high

We have made it our mission not to have any hidden costs. This means that we do not charge additional fees for examinations, study materials, or printed degrees. At the beginning of the application process, each applicant is assigned a personal Student Adviser, who co-operates with the Scholarship Committee and the Admissions Officer, in reviewing the prospective student’s academic record and financial situation; the Student Adviser then informs the applicant what percentage of the normal tuition fees are covered by the UNICAF scholarship they are eligible for, and discusses a suitable payment plan that suits the student’s financial situation; once everything has been agreed, the student is set up to commence his/her studies. On the other hand, students choosing to study at a traditional university campus usually face additional expenses, like air travel and visas, the cost of purchasing text books, and paying for living expenses away from home.
