Gov’t Offers Hundreds of Scholarships in Bid to Keep Math and Science Teachers

Jamaica continues to feel the negative effects of the emigration of educated and highly trained individuals.

Education Minister, Ruel Reid recently stated that the migration of teachers especially those qualified to teach Mathematics, Science and Technology, remains problematic for the island.

The minister had previously expressed concern over the high migration rate of Math and Science teachers last September.

And he has now revealed that in an attempt to curb the migration, the ministry is  offering some 300 scholarships for teachers being trained in those areas.

Senator Ruel Reid made the disclosure yesterday while speaking at a media conference at the Overseas Examination Commission in Kingston.
