19-Yr-Old Girl Dies After Being Struck By Lightning in St Thomas
Sajakay Brown, a 19 year old girl from the Hagley Gap District in St Thomas reportedly died after she was struck by lightning over the weekend.
According to Loop News, the freak accident occurred at a wake on Saturday morning.
Heavy rains sent persons scampering searching to find cover.
The Cedar Valley Police reported that at approximately 6:30 am, Brown was returning home from the wake, when she decided to take shelter from the rain under a mango tree.
Shortly afterwards, the tree was struck by lightning.
She received serious burns that covered her body and subsequently fell into a gully.
The rains and thunderstorms were associated with a low level trough that affected the island as a result of the passage of Hurricane Joaquin through the region.
