Britain to Spend 25 Million Pounds to Build Prison in Jamaica

According to the BBC, British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that Britain intends to spend 25 million British pounds to construct a new prison in Jamaica.

The report by the BBC stated that the new prison will be used to house hundreds of Jamaicans currently incarcerated in Britain and the transfer of prisoners is slated to begin in the year 2020.

Cameron also reportedly stated:

“It is absolutely right that foreign criminals who break our laws are properly punished but this shouldn’t be at the expense of the hardworking British taxpayer.”

“That’s why this agreement is so important. It will mean Jamaican criminals are sent back home to serve their sentences, saving the British taxpayer millions of pounds but still ensuring justice is done,” he also stated.

Currently over 600 Jamaicans are incarcerated in Britain, representing the third highest number for any other country.
