Reggae Boy Ethan Pinnock Joins Coventry City After Seven Years at Brentford

Reggae Boy Ethan Pinnock has completed a permanent move to Coventry City, bringing an end to a memorable seven-year spell at Brentford.

The Jamaica international defender leaves the Bees having made 216 appearances in all competitions and scored 12 goals, establishing himself as a key figure in the club’s rise from the Championship to the Premier League.

Pinnock joined Brentford from Barnsley in July 2019 and quickly became an important member of the squad. He made 40 appearances in his first season as Brentford reached the Championship play-off final, where they were beaten by Fulham at Wembley.

A year later, Pinnock helped the Bees go one better, playing a major role in their promotion to the Premier League following a 2-0 play-off final victory over Swansea City — fittingly achieved on his 28th birthday.

His performances during that campaign also earned him selection to the 2020/21 PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Pinnock subsequently became a regular for Brentford in the Premier League and earned high praise from the club as his departure was confirmed.

“Ethan is a Brentford legend,” director of football Phil Giles said.

“Without Ethan, there would be no guarantee we’d be where we are now, so for that reason he’ll always be welcome back at Brentford at any time.”

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews also described the Jamaican as “one of the modern-day greats of the club”, praising both his qualities as a player and his character.

The move now opens a new chapter for Pinnock at Coventry City, who have recently earned promotion and will be looking to strengthen their squad for the challenge ahead.

For Jamaican football fans, the transfer will be of particular interest as Pinnock remains an important member of the Reggae Boyz set-up.

The experienced centre-back, who was born in England and represents Jamaica internationally, will now look to bring his considerable Premier League experience to Coventry as he begins the next stage of his career.
