Reggae Girlz Eye Direct Path to Women’s World Cup

Qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil will be decided at the quarter-final stage of the Concacaf W Championship, placing immediate pressure on Jamaica as they prepare for a decisive clash against Costa Rica, with both teams chasing a place at the global tournament.
Even if Jamaica fail to advance, their campaign would not end there, as defeated quarter-final sides will move into additional play-in fixtures. Those matches will determine which teams from the region progress to the FIFA Intercontinental Playoffs set for February 2027.
The Reggae Girlz are scheduled to face Costa Rica on November 27 at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium in Mansfield, Texas. That fixture was confirmed following the official draw, which paired the fourth-seeded Jamaicans with the fifth-ranked Central American side.
Elsewhere in the bracket, the United States, entering as the top seed, will meet El Salvador, while Canada, ranked second, are drawn against Panama. Mexico, seeded third, are set to take on Haiti, who are placed sixth.
Each of the four winners from these encounters will secure automatic advancement to the semi-finals, with those same teams also booking direct qualification to the World Cup.
There is also an Olympic incentive tied to results. Jamaica would confirm a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles if they defeat Costa Rica and the United States also progress past El Salvador.
Recent tournament history shows Jamaica consistently among the region’s stronger teams, having finished third in both the 2018 and 2022 editions of the competition.
That period of success followed a milestone achievement for the programme, as the Reggae Girlz made their first appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.
