The Jamaican Ministry of Culture has announced that the official funeral for late reggae singer and actor Jimmy Cliff is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

A statement from the Ministry confirms that the ceremony will commence at 10 a.m.

The entertainer, born James Chambers, died on November 24 at the age of 77.

Government authorities say he will receive an official funeral in recognition of what they describe as his “immense contribution to Jamaican Culture and Entertainment.”

Final preparations are being handled by the Office of the Prime Minister, working alongside the Ministry and members of Jimmy Cliff’s family.

According to the Ministry, the National Indoor Centre service is intended to give Jamaicans a final chance to honour a national figure widely regarded as an icon.

The Ministry also notes that the programme will consist solely of spoken word, dance and music, reflective of Jimmy Cliff’s personal preferences.
