Shaw Shines Ahead of Barclays WSL 2025/26 Opener

Khadija “Bunny” Shaw was on target as Manchester City produced a dominant 4–0 behind-closed-doors friendly win over Nottingham Forest, a result that underlined their growing sharpness in the build-up to the new season.

Shaw, who once represented St Jago High and later played with Harbour View FC Women, converted once in the encounter, while her new teammate Vivianne Miedema helped herself to two goals.

The other strike in the game added further gloss to a scoreline that highlighted City’s superior quality throughout the contest.

Manchester City’s players and staff have been using these summer fixtures to fine-tune their match fitness and tactical shape, with the Nottingham Forest outing serving as another step in their pre-season programme.

Attention now turns to September 5, when they kick off their 2025/26 Barclays Women’s Super League campaign against reigning champions Chelsea in what promises to be a high-profile opening clash.

A fresh chapter also begins for Shaw as she officially takes over the club’s iconic number 9 shirt for the season ahead.

The prolific forward, who has worn number 21 since her arrival in the summer of 2021, now assumes a squad number traditionally associated with leading strikers at Manchester City.

Already established as City’s all-time record goal-scorer in the professional era, the Jamaican star continues to build on her reputation.

In the 2024/25 season, despite battling injury interruptions, she still managed to score 12 times in just 14 league appearances.

That tally was enough to secure the Barclays Women’s Super League Golden Boot, underlining both her efficiency in front of goal and her ability to deliver at the highest level.
