Former Reggae Boyz Defender and Coach Geoffrey Maxwell Passes Away
Geoffrey Maxwell, former Reggae Boyz defender and coach, passed away on Saturday morning after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Waterhouse Football Club, where he achieved significant success as head coach, confirmed his passing in a statement.
A respected figure in Jamaican football, Maxwell played a pivotal role in shaping teams both at the schoolboy and club levels.
His leadership saw Excelsior High secure a Manning Cup title and two Walker Cup triumphs during the 1980s.
At the senior level, he guided Waterhouse FC to the National League trophy in 1998.
Throughout his coaching career, he managed several local clubs, including Santos, Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens, St. George’s CS, JDF, and Maverley/Hughenden.
His influence extended beyond individual teams, leaving a lasting impact on the wider football community.
Last year, Maxwell was recognised by the Jamaica Football Federation alongside three other football stalwarts for his contributions to the sport.
