Reggae Girlz Secure 3-0 Victory Over South Africa in International Friendly
Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz delivered a dominant 3-0 victory over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the first of two international friendly matches on Friday night at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay.
Siobhan Wilson, making her comeback from a long-term injury, opened the scoring with a spectacular goal directly from a corner in the 28th minute.
Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw then sealed the win for the hosts with a brace, finding the back of the net in the 55th and 83rd minutes.
The match marked Jamaica’s first home international since 2022 and saw them impress against the African champions, who have now suffered three consecutive defeats, following losses to Denmark (5-0) and England (2-1) last month.
This victory was the second meeting between the teams, with their first encounter ending in a 1-1 draw in Durban ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Shaw, who made her return to the national squad after a year-long absence, was instrumental in the win. The forward has been in exceptional form for Manchester City, where she netted 22 goals in the Women’s Super League last season.
The two teams will meet again for the second friendly on Wednesday at the same venue.
