Residents Urged to Stay Alert as Surveillance Data Reveal High COVID-19 Transmission
Jamaicans are being advised to remain cautious as data from surveillance indicate a noticeable increase in COVID-19 transmission among the population.
According to the Health Ministry, 176 COVID-19 cases were recorded in July, reflecting a 16% rise from the 152 reported in June.
St. James and St. Catherine accounted for 18% each of these cases, while Kingston and St. Andrew represented 25%.
The ministry emphasises that vaccination remains the best defense against severe illness and death associated with COVID-19, with thirteen deaths reported since the year began.
Pfizer vaccine doses are available to the population, according to the ministry.
Anyone feeling ill must stay home, wear a mask to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets, and practice proper sneezing and coughing etiquette, in addition to using hand sanitizers or washing hands frequently.
Travelers from Jamaica are urged to practice these infection prevention protocols diligently while abroad.
Immunocompromised persons and those with chronic conditions are especially advised to pay close attention to their care management.
