Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock Secures Silver in Long Jump at Paris Olympics
Wayne Pinnock clinched a silver medal in the long jump final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, securing Jamaica’s fourth medal of the Games.
Pinnock’s best jump of 8.36m earned him second place, behind Greece’s Miltiádis Tentóglou, who also outperformed him at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
Tentóglou achieved a jump of 8.48m, becoming the first man since Carl Lewis to win consecutive Olympic long jump titles.
Mattia Furlani of Italy took the bronze with a jump of 8.34m, marking his country’s first long jump medal in 40 years. Pinnock’s silver adds to his World Championships silver, solidifying his status as a leading long jumper.
Jamaica’s other finalist, Corey McLeod, who placed fourth at the World Championships, finished 12th with a best effort of 7.82m.
Jamaica’s medal tally at the Games now includes three silver medals and one bronze.
Other silver medallists are Kishane Thompson in the men’s 100m and Shanieka Ricketts in the women’s triple jump, while Rajindra Campbell secured a bronze medal in the men’s shot put.
