Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson Nominated for Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, the reigning world 200m champion, is among the six contenders for the highly coveted Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award.
Jackson solidified her dominance by defending her world 200m title in Budapest, setting a championship record of 21.41, which stands as the second-fastest time in history.
She maintained an unbeaten streak in all her 200m finals throughout 2023 and clinched the Diamond League championship titles in both the 100m and 200m events.
Joining her in the nominations are Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon and USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson.
Kipyegon secured double gold as the world 1500m and 5000m champion in 2023, alongside setting world records in the 1500m, mile, and 5000m events.
Richardson, in her global championship debut, claimed two golds and a bronze at Budapest, including a world-leading personal best of 10.65 in the 100m.
Completing the lineup are Spain’s Aita Bonmati, recipient of the Balon d’Or, USA’s alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and Polish tennis sensation Iga Swiatek.
The 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards is set to take place in Madrid on April 22.
