Compensation Dispute Leads to Split Between Thompson-Herah and Coach, Confirms Management Team
Compensation Package at the Heart of Breakdown in Negotiations
Five-time Olympic Games gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah and her coach, Shanikie Osbourne, have parted ways due to a breakdown in negotiations over a compensation package.
The confirmation came through a press release issued by Thompson-Herah’s management team, Andi Sports Management, on Wednesday.
The release stated that the professional separation was a result of the inability to reach an agreement on the compensation package for Coach Osbourne’s services.
According to the statement, the package proposed by Osbourne was deemed “extremely excessive” and lacked the flexibility to negotiate by the other party. Consequently, Thompson-Herah’s management team felt compelled to seek the services of another coach.
Thompson-Herah, who secured gold in the women’s 100m at the last two Olympic Games, had Osbourne guide her training during the latter part of the previous season.
Osbourne, previously part of the MVP TC setup where Thompson-Herah trained, played a crucial role in her success, including her participation in the silver medal-winning women’s 4x100m relays at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The release clarified that Osbourne’s hiring was on a temporary basis, and the situation would be reviewed at the end of the season.
The search for a new coach to prepare Thompson-Herah for the upcoming season is already underway.
“Once our search is complete and a final decision is made, we will once again use this medium to officially notify the fans, followers, supporters, and the general public. Rest assured that the best interest of Mrs. Elaine Thompson-Herah supersedes all other concerns, and all decisions will be made to fortify her legacy as one of the world’s premier female athletes,” the release concluded.
