Reality TV Star Erica Mena Axed from ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ Over Racial Slur Directed at Spice
In a recent turn of events, the long-time ‘Love and Hip-Hop’ star, Erica Mena, has been ousted from the popular reality TV show following a racially insensitive incident involving her co-star, Spice.
The incident has ignited a heated discussion about racial insensitivity in the entertainment industry and the responsibility of reality TV producers.
The controversy unfolded during a recent episode of ‘Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta’ when Erica Mena and Spice, whose real name is Grace Hamilton, engaged in a heated argument over family matters.
Tensions escalated, leading Mena to flip a table and unleash a racial slur against Spice, a Black woman.
Mena called her a “monkey” and even made a callous remark about Spice’s recent health scare, stating that she should have died.
The racial slur hurled by Mena did not go unnoticed by the show’s viewers and fans, who swiftly expressed their outrage on social media.
Critics accused the reality TV series of allowing such offensive content to air before taking action in response to the public backlash.
In response to the uproar, the producers of ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ made a statement on social media, acknowledging the severity of Mena’s comments.
They announced that viewers would witness the repercussions of Mena’s actions in the remaining episodes of the season and declared that she would not be part of the upcoming season of ‘Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta.’
“Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Mena’s comments play out in the final episodes of the season,” said the statement.
“Effective immediately she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta.”
Erica Mena, of Afro-Latina heritage with Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic roots, is no stranger to controversy on reality TV.
She has been a prominent cast member on ‘Love and Hip-Hop’ for an extended period.
However, this incident may mark the end of her reality TV career.
Interestingly, Mena seemed to have been considering a departure from reality TV even before her dismissal.
On August 29, in response to a tweet by a user suggesting that she had outgrown reality TV, Mena cryptically affirmed this sentiment, hinting at her aspirations to pursue a career in acting.
