Jamaica Awarded Caribbean’s Leading Destination at World Travel Awards

Jamaica secured the prestigious title of Caribbean’s Leading Destination at the illustrious World Travel Awards Caribbean and The Americas gala ceremony.

The event, a glittering affair held at Sandals Grand St Lucian, heralded the commencement of the WTA’s 30th anniversary Grand Tour 2023, a global quest aimed at recognising and celebrating the crème de la crème of travel and tourism establishments.

Amidst an atmosphere of celebration, Jamaica not only clinched the coveted title of Caribbean’s Leading Destination but also emerged triumphant in categories including Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board, Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Port among others.

Donovan White, the esteemed Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, expressed delight at the recognition, yet underscored the persistent efforts required to fortify the nation’s tourism sector.

He stressed the ongoing commitment to transform road networks into seamless highway systems, fulfill the promise of adding 15,000 new rooms within a seven-year timeframe, attract fresh investments to cultivate novel tourist attractions, and forge stronger ties with small and medium-sized enterprises to invigorate the Jamaican tourism economy.

While acknowledging the commendable accolades in the cruise sector, White candidly addressed the challenges posed by the lingering effects of the pandemic.

He emphasised the gradual recuperation of the cruise sector and Jamaica’s collaborative endeavours with cruise partners to architect sustainable itineraries, particularly in the northern Caribbean, which confronted disruptions due to the global health crisis.

The esteemed Leading Cruise Port award was conferred upon Falmouth, a pivotal hub for Royal Caribbean and one of Jamaica’s most prominent piers.

White underscored Falmouth’s pivotal role in cultivating onshore excursions that create invaluable linkages, thereby enriching the local tourism landscape.

Among the suite of accolades attained, White underscored the distinct significance of the Leading Tourist Board of the Caribbean and the Leading Caribbean Destination awards.

The Jamaica Tourist Board’s remarkable feat of securing this accolade for 17 consecutive years exemplifies a standard against which other boards aspire to measure themselves.

White voiced unshakable confidence in the team’s steadfast commitment to maintaining this standard, further emphasising that the accolades stand as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the JTB team.
