Jamaica’s Medal Tally So Far At Budapest World Champs

Jamaica has secured a total of three medals thus far at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.

As day three came to a close, Hansle Parchment, Shericka Jackson, and Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce have contributed to the country’s medal count, capturing two silver and one bronze medal.

The spotlight, however, was stolen by the dynamic American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson during the highly anticipated women’s 100-meter final.

In a breathtaking display of speed, Richardson set a new championship record with a remarkable time of 10.65 seconds, overshadowing Shericka Jackson’s impressive 10.72-second performance and five-time champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce’s time of 10.77 seconds.

Olympic champion Hansle Parchment faced a slow start but managed to battle his way to the silver medal position in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

His season-best time of 13.07 seconds placed him just behind Grant Holloway, who clocked a season-best 12.96 seconds, securing the gold.

In the men’s discus final, Frederick Dacres gave his best effort with a throw of 66.72 meters, earning him a fifth-place finish. Travis Smikle, on the other hand, achieved an 11th-place finish with a distance of 61.90 meters.

Unfortunately, the day brought disappointment for under-20 record holder Jaydon Hibbert, who suffered a hamstring injury during his first attempt in the event. He was forced to withdraw from the competition due to the injury.

Meanwhile, former Camperdown standout Roshawn Clarke not only reached the final of the men’s 400-meter hurdles but also set a new national record and World Under-20 record with a remarkable time of 47.34 seconds.

Jamaica currently holds the 10th position on the medal table.
