Lowe Makes Move To Miami To Tackle MLS
Damion Lowe, the Jamaica defender, has signed a two-year contract with MLS Eastern Conference outfit Inter Miami CF that is owned by former English soccer star David Beckham.
The Kingston-born centre back has been a stalwart with the national team, who last month axed head coach Theodore Whitmore following his dreadful run in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.
The 6’3” son of former Reggae Boyz favourite Onandi Lowe has represented the Reggae Boyz 41 times, including as stand-in skipper against Saudi Arabia in 2020, and was named in the CONCACAF 2021 Gold Cup Best XI.
Lowe was recently with top Egyptian club Al-Ittihad, where he spent just over a year having joined in November 2020. He scored twice in 32 appearances.
The 28-year-old spent four seasons in Norway with IK Start, which included helping guide them to the top flight, where he scored four times in his 57 matches before moving to Egypt.
Lowe competed in the USL Championship for Phoenix Rising and Tampa Bay Rowdies, as well as the North American Soccer League with Minnesota United and the USL League Two with Reading United AC.
Chris Henderson, Inter Miami’s chief soccer officer and sporting director, revealed in a club statement: “I’ve known Damion for a long time and I’m sure he will welcome this challenge to break into MLS while helping us achieve our objectives.
“We are looking forward to continuing to solidify our backline with this signing.”
Inter Miami made Lowe the third centre back to sign in a week, having brought in Swede Christopher McVey and Zambian Aimé Mabika.
