United States To Require Negative COVID Tests From All Incoming Travellers

All international passengers (including U.S. citizens) heading to the United States will soon need to show proof of a negative coronavirus test, as a new federal policy is slated to take effect on January 26.

Via a recent statement describing the new policy, Dr. Robert R. Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said: “Testing does not eliminate all risk,”.

“But when combined with a period of staying at home and everyday precautions like wearing masks and social distancing, it can make travel safer, healthier, and more responsible by reducing spread on planes, in airports, and at destinations.”

Dr. Redfield is expected to sign an order detailing the new rules on Tuesday.

The new policy will require all air passengers, even those already vaccinated, to receive a test for current infection within three days prior to their flight to the United States departing, and to provide written documentation of their test results or proof of having recovered from COVID-19.

The White House coronavirus task force and federal agencies, have been debating whether to expand entry requirements for weeks.

To date, over 24 million coronavirus cases have been recorded in the United States and over 400,000 deaths.
