Jamaican-Born Nurse First Person To Get COVID-19 Vaccine In New York

On Monday a Jamaican-born nurse become the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the US state of New York.

After receiving the shot in the arm at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, 52-year-old Sandra Lindsay said “I feel hopeful today….I feel like healing is coming.”

She added:

“I hope this marks the beginning of the end in a very painful time in our history.”

Lindsay received the first known clinically authorised inoculation outside of a vaccine trial during a news conference with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.

COVID-19 has so far claimed more than 35,000 lives in New York and severely weakened the state’s economy.

New York is receiving an initial shipment of 170,000 vaccine doses, with more shipments slated to arrive in the state.

America’s  Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first coronavirus vaccine last week. It was developed jointly by Pfizer and BioNTech and requires two doses spaced weeks apart.
