Jamaican Female Cricketer Creates History
Jamaica and West Indies all-rounder Stafanie Taylor has created history by becoming the first cricketer in history (male or female) to hold top spot on the Reliance ICC batting and bowling rankings in Test or ODI cricket at the same time.
Taylor, who is walking previously uncharted territory for any cricketer, leads all three women’s One Day International rankings tables, batting, bowling and all-rounder.
The 22 year old who is the back to back reigning ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year is also number one on both the ICC Women’s T20 batting and all-rounder rankings.
Top spot on the women’s T20 bowling rankings is held by another Jamaican, Shanel Daley.
Taylor in the meantime will next be in action for the Windies women against England in a three-match ODI series which starts in Port of Spain on Tuesday.
In her last outing on Saturday, Taylor who was named Player of the match led West Indies women to a thrilling 8 wicket triumph over England in Barbados to capture the Tri-nation T20 series.
The latest Reliance ICC Women’s Player Rankings for ODIs were updated at the end of West Indies’ 2-1 series win in a three-match series against visiting New Zealand that finished at Kingston on October 10.
England captain Charlotte Edwards is in third place of the Reliance ICC Women’s Player Rankings for ODI Batters and, in the second ODI of the upcoming series, will become only the second women’s captain to lead her side in 100 or more ODIs.
Only Australia’s former skipper and ICC Hall of Famer Belinda Clark has captained more than Edwards (101 ODIs).
Sarah Taylor in eighth, Deandra Dottin in ninth and Lydia Greenway in 11th are some of the batters inside the top 20 who are likely to be seen in action during the series.
In the Reliance ICC Women’s Player Rankings for ODI Bowlers, England will be without the services of number-two ranked Katherine Brunt, but the other bowlers inside the top 10 who are likely to be in action for the visiting side are Jenny Gunn in seventh spot and Holly Colvin in 10th.
For West Indies, apart from top-ranked Taylor, who was the leading wicket-taker in the recent series against New Zealand (11) and player of the series, the others inside the top 10 likely to feature in the series are Shanel Daley in fourth place and Anisa Mohammed in sixth.
