Jamaica-Born Judge To Head American Society Of International Law
Highly respected Jamaica-born jurist, Justice Patrick Robinson, has been elected Honorary President of the American Society of International Law (ASIL).
The 74-year-old recently etched his name in the history books as he is only the second non-United States national to lead the organization.
ASIL is devoted to the study of international law, is said to be the oldest and largest body of its kind in the world.
He is currently a judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and was formerly the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, a position he held between 2008 and 2011.
He was first elected to the Tribunal in 1998 and has been re-elected twice since. In 2004, he presided over the trial of Slobodan Milošević, the former Yugoslav president.
He is also the author of the book Jamaican Athletics – A Model for 2012 and the World.
Robinson will head ASIL for the 2020-2021 period.
