Earthquake Rattles Haiti

Haiti hit by earthquake

On Saturday (November 12) Haiti was rattled by an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the richter scale.

The quake which occurred at approximately 1:00 am was located on land at a depth of 12.3 km, at least five kilometres north of Les Anglais (South), 51 km northwest of Les Cayes, 35 km southwest of Jérémie according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Fortunately there were no reported injuries or deaths.

Haiti still has not recovered from a devastating magnitude 7 earthquake that shook the nation in 2010, claiming as as many as 316,000 lives according to some estimates.

In October of this year, the nation’s problems were compounded after the category 4 storm – Matthew,  pummeled the country’s western tip resulting in the deaths of close to 1,000 people.

Jamaica and Haiti share an earthquake fault line.
