Introducing Dr. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
On Saturday (October 29), Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was the recipient of an honorary degree courtesy of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona.
She was conferred with the Honorary Degree Of Doctor Of Laws.
Fraser-Pryce gained worldwide popularity in the 2008 Olympic Games when at only 21 years of age, she became the first Caribbean woman to win 100m gold at the Olympics.
Four years later, she successfully defended her 100 m title, becoming the third woman to win two consecutive 100 m events at the Olympics.
Currently, Fraser-Pryce is ranked as the 4th fastest female sprinter of in history, and also serves as a role model for many Jamaican youth.
In 2010, she was appointed the first National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Jamaica.
