Brazil Wants to Face Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz
Brazil – the nation that has won the FIFA World Cup five times and the only country to participate in all tournaments has expressed an interested in challenging Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in a friendly match ahead of the prestigious Copa America Centenario, scheduled for the USA June 3-26.
Captain Horace Burrell, current president of the Jamaica Football Federation revealed the exciting prospective encounter following the draw of Copa America Centenario at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Sunday night.
According to the Observer, Mr Burrell stated:
“Brazil is one of them that have approached us, and as you know Brazil is a big team in the world, so playing a friendly game would be a win-win situation for Jamaica and for Brazil”.
The Copa America Centenario will be comprised of 16 teams and is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa América. This will be the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.
Jamaica will kick off their Copa America Centenario debut with a match against Venezuela at the Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, on June 5, then face Mexico at the 92,542-capacity Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on June 9, before closing out against Uruguay at 68,500-capacity Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (San Francisco Bay area), California, on June 13.
Group A will have hosts USA, Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay, while Group B is made up of Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti and Peru. In Group D, Argentina, Chile, Panama and Bolivia will do battle.
