BREAKING: Doctor Dies From Swine Flu in Jamaica
Reports of persons infected with the H1N1 virus or ‘Swine Flu’ began to surface about two weeks ago in Jamaica.
Now a female doctor has become Jamaica’s first patient to die from the illness.
According to The Gleaner, the doctor was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) after being transferred from Mandeville.
The Health Ministry recently upgraded Swine Flu to a category one illness.
As a result of this, all suspected cases of severe respiratory illness now require medical practitioners to notify the health authority within a 24 hour period.
It was formerly a category two illness, which gives medical practitioners one week to report suspected cases.
