Bolt and Blake to miss Jamaica Invitational
This weekend’s Jamaica International Invitational which will be held at the National Stadium in Kingston has suffered a massive blow as global sprinting superstar Usain Bolt has withdrawn from the event
Bolt who was set to compete in the 200m event stated that he felt tightness in training over the weekend and during consultations with coach glen mills has decided not to risk anything at this early stage of the athletics season.
The six-time Olympic gold medalist expressed hopes of recovering in time to race at the Cayman Invitational on May 8 and will make a decision near the date of the event.
His absence was confirmed by former Olympic 200 meters champion Donald Quarrie who is a member of the organizing committee.
Bolt joins World 100m champion Yohan Blake as major stars who will miss the event due to injuries.
Blake in the meantime will be replaced by American record holder and former World 100m champ Tyson Gay in the 100m event.
