Gold For Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson At Swimming World Cup!
Jamaica’s swimming sensation Alia Atkinson earned a gold medal in impressive fashion on the last day of the FINA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
This after defeating her rival Molly Hannis of the United States to win the 50m breaststroke in a blistering 30.55 seconds – the 6th fastest time of the year.
This latest win also represents Atkinson’s 32nd gold medal of her World Cup series history.
Hannis, previously beat Atkinson in Monday’s 100m breaststroke final, but was forced to settle for silver this time around with a time of 31.12 Australia’s Leiston Pickett placed third with a time of 31.13 seconds.
On Monday Atkinson finished second for the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke clocking a time of 1.07.83 seconds.
The London Olympic finalist pockets $2500 dollars in Doha for an overall earnings heading into the final meet in Dubai of $26,750 dollars.
She also earns 21 points in Doha for an overall 132 heading to Dubai and with 30 cluster bonus points could benefit from the big cluster 3 bonuses on offer for the top six finishers in the cluster which includes Tokyo, Doha and Dubai.
