Arsenal’s long wait for Premier League glory is finally over, with Mikel Arteta guiding the North London club back to the summit of English football after years of falling just short.

The celebrations erupted on Tuesday night after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth, a result that confirmed Arsenal as champions with the season still ongoing.

For Jamaican Arsenal supporters, the title carries extra significance after several frustrating campaigns where the club appeared close but could not finish the job. This time, however, the Gunners held their nerve despite intense pressure from Pep Guardiola’s side during the closing stretch of the season.

Arteta has now secured his second major trophy since taking charge at the Emirates Stadium, ending Arsenal’s six-year spell without silverware and delivering the club’s first league crown since the famous Invincibles era.

Former manager Arsene Wenger, who oversaw Arsenal’s unbeaten title-winning campaign in 2003/04, was also acknowledged in a celebratory social media post shared by the club following confirmation of the triumph.

The road to the championship was far from straightforward. Arsenal spent large portions of the campaign at the top of the standings, but momentum appeared to shift in April after a 2-1 loss away to Manchester City threatened to derail their push for the title.

Instead of fading, Arsenal responded strongly in the weeks that followed and managed to stay ahead of City to finally reclaim the Premier League trophy after 22 years.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith, who won league titles during his playing career with the club, expressed delight that the team had finally managed to break through after several recent near misses.

Attention will now quickly turn to Europe, where Arsenal still have the chance to add another major honour to their season. The English champions are preparing to face defending winners PSG in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday, May 30 at 5pm.

Arsenal’s previous league success came under Wenger during the 2003/04 campaign when the club completed an unbeaten Premier League season, a feat that remains one of the most celebrated achievements in English football history.
