Reggae Girlz Eye Improvement After 4-0 Win Over Antigua and Barbuda

Jamaica’s push toward the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup continues next week when they take on Guyana at the National Stadium, with the squad aiming to build on recent performances and maintain momentum in the qualifiers.

Midfielder Atlanta Primus indicated that playing in front of the home support remains significant for the group, noting that returning to local fans brings added motivation as the campaign progresses.

Head coach Hubert Busby pointed to the team’s aggressive approach as a key feature of their recent outing, explaining that their system is designed to keep Jamaica on the front foot and maximise the strengths within the squad. He also highlighted that adjustments during the match, including changes in attacking patterns and substitutions, helped maintain pressure on the opposition.

Despite the attacking dominance shown, Busby acknowledged that converting chances more efficiently remains an area requiring improvement, even as the team created multiple scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

Team captain Khadija Shaw emphasised that her role continues to revolve around leading the attack and making the most of scoring chances, while also contributing wherever necessary to support the team’s overall performance.

The forward also stressed that strengthening connections within the squad is an ongoing process, particularly as new players are integrated, with the belief that consistent training and unity will translate into better results over time.

Jamaica recently secured a 4-0 victory over Antigua and Barbuda at the National Stadium, a result that reflected both their attacking intent and control of the match.

Following that performance, Shaw noted that the team remains focused on delivering organised displays while addressing issues identified in earlier matches, as they continue refining their execution.

She also pointed to the importance of re-engaging supporters, indicating that the group is determined to restore excitement among fans and build a stronger connection through their performances.

During a press briefing on April 10, the captain conveyed appreciation for the turnout at the Antigua and Barbuda match, while suggesting that the team is working toward an even higher standard in upcoming fixtures.

The ongoing qualifiers form part of the CONCACAF pathway in the 2025/26 cycle, with Jamaica continuing efforts to strengthen cohesion as they progress through the competition.
