New Health Centres Coming to Ocho Rios and Brown’s Town

Two new health centres are set to be constructed in Ocho Rios and Brown’s Town, St. Ann, at a combined cost of approximately US$1.6 million, bringing significant improvements to healthcare access and service delivery in the parish.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony last week, Programme Manager for the Health Systems Strengthening Programme (HSSP), Orett Clarke, announced that more than 30,000 residents of Ocho Rios and its surrounding communities are expected to benefit from the new facility being developed there.

Clarke highlighted that the upgraded Ocho Rios Health Centre will feature enhanced infrastructure, including increased seating capacity, reduced waiting times, and an expanded registration area with multiple service stations—aimed at providing a more comfortable and efficient experience for patients.

Meanwhile, Clarke also revealed that the Brown’s Town Health Centre will be temporarily relocated to the Brown’s Town Community College. This interim move is designed to offer improved accessibility and comfort while the existing facility undergoes redevelopment.

According to Clarke, a brand-new, permanent health centre will be constructed in Brown’s Town within the next 16 months.

The new facility is expected to offer expanded healthcare services to better meet the needs of the growing population.

The developments form part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Jamaica’s primary healthcare system under the HSSP initiative.
