Shaw Honoured with Cyrille Regis Award for Excellence On and Off the Pitch
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been awarded the prestigious Cyrille Regis Award at the Football Black List Awards, held at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.
The award, named in honour of trailblazing forward Cyrille Regis, recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to both football and the Black community over the past year.
Shaw was celebrated for her exceptional achievements on the field and her unwavering commitment to making a difference off it.
In 2024, she was named PFA, FWA, and WSL Player of the Year, and made history as the first Manchester City player to win the Golden Boot in the Women’s Super League.
She was also selected for the WSL Team of the Year for a second consecutive season and became Manchester City’s all-time top scorer with a goal against Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
Off the pitch, Shaw’s response to racist abuse in January 2025 further cemented her status as a role model.
After receiving online abuse, she returned to action in the FA Cup against Leicester City and celebrated her goal with a symbolic Black Power salute, earning widespread praise.
The Cyrille Regis Award, chosen by the Regis family, is reserved for individuals who embody excellence and advocacy in British football and the Black community.
