Jamaica’s Elite School Teams Set to Ignite Penn Relays

Franklin Field Stadium in Philadelphia will come alive this Thursday as the world’s premier relay carnival gets underway.

Jamaica’s most accomplished high school track and field teams, including recent ISSA Boys and Girls Champs victors Kingston College and Hydel, will feature prominently.

Set across three days, the prestigious meet will welcome more than 17,000 athletes and draw crowds totalling 100,000 from across the globe.

Jamaica will be well represented, with 600 athletes and officials travelling for the event, in addition to 100 Jamaican athletes currently enrolled in New York-area schools.

A competitive lineup of Jamaican schools—Calabar, Jamaica College, St. Jago, Holmwood, Excelsior, William Knibb, and Edwin Allen—will join the fray alongside Kingston College and Hydel.

Kicking off the competition, the Boys 4×800 metre relay heats will feature Calabar, the event’s current record holders and favourites.

Their team, comprised of Alejandro Palmer, Kevaughn Richards, Justin Webb, and Dujhaunti Lewis, will aim to stamp their dominance early.

Following Calabar’s appearance, relay teams from Edwin Allen, Holmwood, and William Knibb will take the track.
