Cavalier Push Inter Miami to the Limit in CONCACAF Champions Cup Clash
Jamaican Premier League side Cavalier SC put up a tenacious fight against Inter Miami in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Thursday night, pushing the MLS giants to their limits despite falling 2-0 in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.
The underdogs showed no fear against a Miami squad missing Lionel Messi, frustrating the Herons throughout the first half.
Cavalier came close to breaking the deadlock when a deflected shot struck the post, and they thought they had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time, only for VAR to rule out their goal after a lengthy review for offside.
Miami struggled to create clear opportunities and suffered a setback early in the second half when defender Maxi Falcon was forced off with an injury.
However, they finally found a breakthrough in the 61st minute when Tadeo Allende converted from close range after a chaotic scramble in the box.
Eight minutes from time, a defensive error gifted Luis Suárez the chance to double Miami’s lead, giving them a crucial advantage heading into the return leg.
Despite the defeat, Cavalier’s spirited performance proved they are more than capable of causing problems for the Herons.
With the second leg set for Kingston’s National Stadium next Thursday, the Jamaican side will be looking to make home advantage count and keep their quarterfinal hopes alive.
