Jamaicans Urged to Prepare for Increased Rainfall Over Next Four Days

Persons across the island are being urged to prepare for increased rainfall over the next four days due to an area of disturbed weather.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has indicated that unstable conditions tied to a tropical wave over Hispaniola are expected to impact the island starting on Tuesday.

By Tuesday night, the tropical wave is predicted to merge with a developing low-pressure system southwest of Jamaica. This disturbance is expected to affect the island for the rest of the week.

“Consequently, the forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect sections of most parishes, especially southern parishes, beginning Tuesday afternoon through to Friday morning,” the Met Service stated.

Strong gusty winds are also expected, particularly in southern parishes and southern marine areas.

Marine interests, especially fishers operating inshore and offshore along the south coast, are advised to exercise extreme caution as worsening sea conditions are anticipated due to the showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

The Met Service will continue to monitor the situation.
