Antonio Shines as West Ham Defeat Ipswich 4-1
Jamaican striker Michail Antonio played a key role in West Ham’s dominant 4-1 victory over Ipswich today, helping the Hammers end their poor home form in style.
The match, which saw Antonio score the opener, was marked by an inspired performance from captain Jarrod Bowen, who added a goal and provided two assists.
West Ham took the lead in just the 47th second, with Antonio sweeping home Bowen’s cross after Kalvin Phillips gave away possession cheaply.
However, Ipswich quickly responded through Liam Delap, who equalised just six minutes later with a fierce shot.
West Ham continued to grow into the game, and Antonio’s presence up front was crucial.
His cross set up Mohammed Kudus for a header that struck the post, before Kudus eventually restored West Ham’s lead by nodding in a rebound just before halftime.
Antonio was involved again early in the second half when Ipswich keeper Arijanet Muric failed to clear a backpass, allowing Bowen to score West Ham’s third after cutting inside and firing low into the corner.
The Jamaican forward continued to torment Ipswich’s defence throughout the match, and in the 75th minute, Bowen set up Lucas Paqueta for a simple tap-in to seal the win.
This result leaves Ipswich still searching for their first win since their return to the top flight.
