Jamal Lowe Steps in for Injured Leon Bailey in Reggae Boyz Squad for Concacaf Nations League
Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has been ruled out of Jamaica’s upcoming Concacaf Nations League fixtures against Cuba and Honduras due to a hamstring injury sustained during a Premier League match against Leicester City.
Bailey, who had not featured for the national team since last November, was eager to make his return after holding discussions with new Reggae Boyz manager Steve McClaren.
However, his hopes were dashed when he was forced to leave the field just 15 minutes into the game against Leicester on Saturday.
In Bailey’s absence, Jamal Lowe, who recently signed with English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday, has been called up as his replacement.
Lowe is set to arrive in Montego Bay this afternoon along with the other English-based players.
The Reggae Boyz will face Cuba this Friday at the National Stadium in Kingston, followed by an away match against Honduras next Tuesday in Tegucigalpa.
Captain Andre Blake and Damion Lowe are already on the island, along with local players Richard King and Adrian Reid Jr.
In addition, former England international Trevor Sinclair has reportedly joined Jamaica’s coaching staff.
He will work alongside former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Richard Hartist under the leadership of head coach Steve McClaren.
