11-year-old Kemuel Brown of Morant Bay, St. Thomas, has reached an impressive academic milestone, passing the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) English A exam with a Grade 2.

A student of Morant Bay Primary School at the time, Kemuel excelled in the CSEC exam while also preparing for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP).

Kemuel’s success can be attributed to his early exposure to English, a subject he found both enjoyable and manageable.

His mother, Devmarie Blake-Brown, who is the Vice Principal at Morant Bay Primary School, played a crucial role in his education.

As shared in a report by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), while attending Saturday PEP classes at Christ Chapel Evening Institute, Kemuel joined his mother’s CSEC English tutoring sessions and eventually sat the exam alongside older students.

Though Kemuel had hoped for a Grade 1, his Grade 2 result filled his family and teachers with immense pride. Despite some initial disappointment, he is widely recognised for his extraordinary achievement, especially given his young age and the simultaneous demands of PEP preparations.

Now a first-form student at St. George’s College, Kemuel has settled well into his new academic environment, enjoying both the school’s culture and the friendships he has made. His dedication to his education is evident, as his day begins at 4:00 a.m. to accommodate the commute to Kingston.

Kemuel’s academic accomplishments are not new. He has won numerous accolades, including Best Junior Writer in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Creative Writing Competition and first place in the Ministry of Education and Youth’s Region 2 Literacy Unit Essay Competition. He has also contributed to *The Gleaner’s* ‘Best in Class’ publication.

As the son of two educators, including his father, Jody Brown, the 2022 Lasco Teacher of the Year, Kemuel is motivated to exceed his family’s successes. His career aspirations remain undecided, but his interests range from drawing and reading to games and sports. He credits Morant Bay Primary School for fostering his leadership abilities and remains firmly grounded by his Christian faith.

Kemuel is ambitious about his future, aspiring for global recognition in whatever field he chooses, driven by the conviction that “with God, nothing is impossible.”
