Dr. Nigel Clarke Appointed Deputy Managing Director of IMF
Dr. Nigel Clarke, the current Finance Minister of Jamaica, is set to take on a new role as the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
His appointment, announced by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, will be effective from October 31 of this year.
Dr. Clarke will succeed Antoinette Sayeh, who will step down from her position on September 12.
Reacting to the announcement, Prime Minister Andrew Holness described Dr. Clarke’s appointment as a historic and important development for both Jamaica and the Caribbean region.
He highlighted the significant impact that Dr. Clarke has had during his public sector career, noting his creativity, imagination, and numerous policy achievements.
Mr. Holness also mentioned that successors to Dr. Clarke’s ministerial and parliamentary responsibilities have already been identified.
