Nickisha Pryce, a former Vere Technical star, is the new women’s national 400 meters record holder.

She delivered a sensational performance on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, striking gold in the women’s 400 meters final during the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Pryce clocked a remarkable 48.89 seconds, marking a new collegiate record, a massive personal and season best, and securing her place as the 13th fastest woman in history, tied with Mexico’s Ana Guevara.

This victory also set new meet and championship records, breaking the previous Jamaican record of 49.30 set by Loraine Fenton in 2002.

Pryce, in her senior year, led a clean sweep for the University of Arkansas.

Meanwhile, Brianna Lyston of Louisiana State University finished second in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 10.89 seconds, behind Mackenzie Long of the University of Mississippi who won in 10.82 seconds.

Akelia Smith of the University of Texas added to her accomplishments by winning the women’s triple jump with an effort of 14.13 meters, following her earlier victory in the women’s long jump.

National champion Lamar Distin of Texas A&M secured third place in the women’s high jump final with a jump of 1.91 meters.

Former St. Jago standout Abigail Martin, also of Texas A&M, finished eighth in the women’s discus throw with a mark of 57.81 meters.
