Jamaica Football Federation Suspends Leon Bailey from National Team Selection

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has decided to temporarily suspend Leon Bailey from selection to the senior Men’s National Team.

Bailey, who was suspended for the Concacaf Nations League finals due to a curfew violation, requested time off from the national squad. Consequently, he is not participating in the 2024 Copa America currently underway in the United States.

Controversy arose when his name appeared in the 26-man Reggae Boyz squad announced by head coach Hemir Hallgrimsson for the tournament, which began on June 20 and will run until July 14.

In a press release, the Federation stated, “This decision has been made in light of recent circumstances surrounding his comments and non-participation in the Copa America 2024 team, despite being selected.”

“Consideration was also given to his stated desire to take a break from national duties, and suspending his selection will guard against any further miscommunication.”

The release further added, “The JFF values the contributions of all players and respects their individual decisions regarding national team participation.”

The matter has been referred to Mr. David Watt, the newly appointed Chairman of the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
