The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will soon have a change in leadership as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Kevin Blake has been officially confirmed as the island nation’s next Commissioner of Police.

The appointment, set to take effect on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang, during a post-Cabinet press briefing held on Wednesday.

Dr. Blake’s elevation to the top position within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) comes as Major General Antony Anderson’s tenure comes to a close, with his contract ending on Monday, March 18, 2024.

With a background as the DCP in charge of Force Development and Logistics, Dr. Blake brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.

The selection process for the new police commissioner has garnered attention, particularly due to concerns raised regarding the lack of advertising for the position.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Chang clarified that all four deputy commissioners underwent rigorous interviews for the opportunity to lead the JCF.

Ultimately, Dr. Kevin Blake emerged as the top candidate, surpassing his colleagues Fitz Bailey, Clifford Blake, and Richard Stewart.

Explaining the decision-making process, Chang emphasised that the Government adhered to a strict “no objection basis,” trusting the Police Services Commission to recommend the individual best suited to lead the constabulary.

Dr. Kevin Blake’s academic credentials further underscore his qualifications for the role.

Holding a PhD in sustainable development, along with a Master of Science in computer-based management information system, and a Bachelor’s Degree with honours in computer science and mathematics, all obtained from The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Dr. Blake’s educational background reflects a diverse skill set.
