The Sangster International Airport (SIA) welcomed a historic moment on November 4 as it received its first United Airlines flight from Denver, Colorado, in the United States.

On the maiden flight from Denver, 168 passengers and six crew members disembarked at SIA, marking the commencement of a weekly service.

Passengers can now look forward to this direct flight arriving at Sangster International Airport every Saturday, providing them with convenient access to the picturesque island of Jamaica.

Sharon Hislop-Holt, the Commercial Business Development and Marketing Manager at MBJ Airports Limited, the operators of SIA, expressed her enthusiasm for the new route, emphasising the significance of direct flights.

She remarked, “The ease of connection for passengers means a lot to us, so it is always great when we have a direct flight, a new route, a new airline. It is really a momentous occasion here for us.”

United Airlines’ Station Manager in Jamaica, Andrew Chambers, shed light on the airline’s ambitious expansion plans.

He noted that United Airlines has initiated one of the world’s largest aircraft orders, which paved the way for this direct flight from Denver to Montego Bay.

While no other direct United Airlines flights are currently planned for the island, Chambers is optimistic that the high demand for Montego Bay as a tourist destination could potentially lead to an increase in the number of flights offered by the carrier.

The positive developments don’t stop here. Visitor Relations Manager at the Jamaica Tourist Board, Candesa Casanova, shared exciting news about more inaugural flights scheduled for the island in the coming weeks.

“So, on December 1, we are anticipating Norse Atlantic Airlines out of the United Kingdom will be travelling here to Montego Bay and then on December 9, we’ll be welcoming Jetlines Airline out of Toronto, Canada,” Casanova revealed, underlining the island’s growing appeal to international travellers.
