Reggae Boyz Captain Andre Blake Becomes a US Citizen

National senior football team captain and star goalkeeper, Andre Blake, has officially obtained United States citizenship via naturalisation.

The three-time MLS goalkeeper of the year successfully passed his naturalisation exam earlier this month, paving the way for a significant milestone in his life.

On a memorable Monday, Andre Blake, alongside his wife and two children, proudly took the oath as they were sworn in as US citizens.

This moment not only marks a personal achievement for Blake but also bestows dual citizenship upon his entire family, solidifying their ties to both the US and Jamaica.

Reflecting on this significant milestone, Blake expressed his joy and gratitude, stating,

“Becoming a US citizen is incredible; it’s been my family’s home for the past 12 years. Our youngest was the only US citizen, and now all four of us become citizens.

Having an American passport is a privilege, and I’m proud to be a US citizen, a Philadelphian, and of course, as always, Jamaican. It’s the best of both worlds, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

As the longest serving player for his club – the Philadelphia Union, Blake’s impact on the team is immeasurable. Since being drafted from the University of Connecticut in 2014, he has amassed an impressive record of 231 combined MLS regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs appearances.

And this season saw Blake achieve a remarkable milestone by surpassing his former teammate Ray Gaddis for the most starts in the team’s history.

Notably, his exceptional performance earned him the prestigious MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third time, a historic feat that places him in a league of his own.

The future holds great promise for this talented goalkeeper, and fans on both sides of the border eagerly await the next chapter in his extraordinary career.
